Fanatical and Radical Culture: The Zappos Way

by Shawn Karol Sandy

Many many many stories have been written on the phenomenal, if not fanatical corporate culture CEO Tony Hsieh has created at Zappos, but here’s a new one on me:

Zappos offers a 4 week immersion to new hires but after a week or so, they give newbies “The Offer,” which is a bribe of $1,000 to quit.

That’s right, jump ship right as it’s leaving the dock.

This is an older article from the always awesome Harvard Business Review, but what a wild and novel way to set the bar for employees. A fair test to measure their engagement and level of commitment to being an integral part of your company and building your selling organization.

It’s a small practice with big implications: Companies don’t engage emotionally with their customers—people do. If you want to create a memorable company, you have to fill your company with memorable people.”
